JACK: WE ARE BACK ON TRACK
JACK TAYLOR believes that Ipswich’s FA Cup win at Wimbledon can kick-start their Championship season back into gear.
After their phenomenal start, Kieran McKenna’s side stuttered in December and four draws and a defeat in their last five games had left them in second but 10 points behind leaders Leicester with teams below edging nearer.
But this comfortable win at League Two Wimbledon saw some of Ipswich’s swagger return, and midfielder Taylor believes it could be just the boost they needed.
Taylor (above), who scored his side’s clincher, said: ”It’s important to get back to winning ways.
“It’s a different competition, but it’s the same players and you have to have the habit of winning every week. We went there to win and win as comfortably as we could. But we know what the FA Cup is like.
“Some weeks, it just won’t go your way. But if we keep grafting and keep going, we’ll keep winning.”
Ipswich made the start they needed when the excellent Nathan Broadhead flicked on Taylor’s corner, and the ball deflected in off Josh Davison.
But the Dons levelled when Taylor handled from Jake Reeves’ corner – and Reeves stepped up to score from the spot.
Taylor said: “I’m not sure if it hit him and then hit my hand. There’s not a lot I could have done about it.”
Five minutes before halftime, though, Wimbledon failed to clear Broadhead’s corner and Axel Tuanzebe nodded in at the near post.
Harry Pell’s sending-off for a second yellow card snuffed out any real Wimbledon hopes, and Ipswich capitalised late on, as Wes Burns’ shot was pushed out by Alex Bass and Taylor slammed home.
