WILDER’S NOT KEEN ON BREAK

- BY RYAN TAYLOR

CHRIS WILDER is not prepared to let a single day go to waste at Sheffield United as the relegation dog-fight intensifies.

His rampant Blades tore Gillingham to shreds in the FA Cup third round on Saturday – rattling in four goals in the process.

They are not back in action until January 21, when West Ham visit Bramall Lane, but that is of no relevance to Wilder.

He said: “We’ll work all the way through these next two weeks because we just haven’t had enough time to work with the players.

“We’re coming in with different ideas and a new approach, but what I will say is the approach of the players has been first class and so has their attitude in terms of everything we’ve done together.”

One particular bright spark was Manchester City loanee James McAtee, who dazzled on the flank before netting two fine goals.

Wilder (above) believes the 21-year-old can make a difference between now and the end of the season.

He added: “Macca has been outstanding and his attitude has also been very good.

“I like him, he’s got a bit about him, he’s a Salford boy so he’s not shy. He’s got personality and he backs it up on the field.”

Wilder is confident his side’s FA Cup whitewash will provide a platform to build upon.

The United boss is also chasing several more additions following the loan capture of Villarreal’s Ben Brereton Diaz, who made his debut from the bench.

“The result gives the players belief because we’ve not won enough games as a football club,” the 56-year-old added.

“There are huge challenges ahead of us and we look forward to coming back in and taking things to the next level.”
