I hope he goes to jail
Shock of gran, 91, attacked by worker at care home in ‘abuse of power & trust’
A GRAN aged 91 who was left with extensive bruising after being assaulted by a carer said she “hopes that b ***** d goes to jail”.
Jack Winter had only been working as a healthcare assistant at the woman’s care home for two weeks when he attacked her in July 2022 – grabbing and pushing her, twisting her arms and punching her in the back on a night shift.
The 33-year-old was sentenced to 11 months’ jail for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and Judge Stuart Driver KC told him: “This case was an abuse of power in a position of trust.”
The 4ft 11in victim, who is so frail she needs a walking aid, did not know the name of the man who assaulted her but bravely told care home bosses he had “pictures all over his arms”.
Staff were able to identify Winter as he was the only person working that shift with tattoos on his arms.
The woman said in her police interview: “He got my arm [...] and he

twisted and twisted and twisted it. I said, ‘You’re breaking my arm’.”
In a victim impact statement read by Gerald Baxter, prosecuting, the victim’s son said she has suffered panic attacks since the incident.
The statement added that she said she “hopes that b ***** d goes to jail” and her eldest grandson had to take six months off work due to his distress at her ordeal.
Winter previously pleaded not guilty to the attack at Brooklands Care Home in Stoneycroft, Liverpool. He had claimed if it was true, the woman “would have screamed”.
But he later changed his plea and the family said he had added to their distress by maintaining his innocence until the last minute.
In mitigation, Rebecca Smith, defending, said Winter, of Liverpool, has diagnoses including mental health issues and had also suffered “tragedies”. The city’s crown court heard Winter had no previous convictions and had now left care work and is employed in the hospitality sector.
