AARON SENDS HIS BELOVED COWBOYS PACKING

SUPER BOWL

- BY KEITH WEBSTER

AARON JONES scored three touchdowns for Green Bay to wreck his boyhood team’s Super Bowl dream.

The running back rushed for 118 yards and his hat-trick of scores saw the Packers run riot to beat Dallas Cowboys 48-32.

The game was not as close as the scoreline suggested, after the Packers led 48-16 in Dallas before giving up a couple of meaningless touchdowns.

Jones (left) said: “This was my dad’s team. You always want to be like your father, so that’s how it became my team.

“Dallas is a special place to me, so it’s a full-circle moment. It feels like home.”

The highly-fancied Cowboys found themselves down 27-0 and never recovered as Jordan Love threw three touchdown passes for the Packers, who now face San Francisco on Saturday night in the last eight.

Detroit will join them in the quarter-finals after they won a playoff game for the first time in 32 years, knocking out the Los Angeles Rams.

The game featured two quarterbacks who were swapped by the clubs three years ago, when Matthew Stafford signed for the Rams – and then won a Super Bowl with them – and Jared Goff left the Rams to join the Lions. And after playing a near-perfect game to hand the Motor City a 24-23 win, Goff (left) said: “It means a whole lot to this city. We knew what it meant when this season started to get into the playoffs and then to get this win.

“And, you know, it’s just the beginning for us. We’ve got some run left.

“I obviously had some personal connections there, but it’s about our team, and it’s about the 2023 Lions.

“I know we just broke a streak that’s been going on for 30 years, but it’s about this squad.”
