Vape ban is still only half a plan

-

■ THERE are few things I agree with this government about but the new rules to stop teens from vaping can’t come soon enough.

It’s shocking to see children as young as 11 puffing on vapes, sucking nicotine and chemicals into their lungs. It’s an epidemic and needs to be stopped.

The problem is there are vape shops everywhere with all the eye-catching packaging and attractive flavours, which make them more appealing to kids. I fear it has already stored up a future health nightmare as who knows what it’s done to their lungs? I appreciate vapes are a useful tool to help adults quit smoking but I think they should be prescription only, otherwise young people will find a way to get hold of them.

■ I hope if/when Labour gets in they will ban vaping completely. It’s dreadful to see the number of young people addicted to these vapes and they will find ways to get around the new rules.

I heard one teenager say on TV he has vapes delivered to his door. Vaping is harming kids’ health and setting them up for future addiction problems. Yes, it might be better than smoking but only marginally. If tobacco was discovered now, there is no way it would be legal, so vaping needs to be stamped out before it takes an even bigger hold on our young people.

■ The Scottish Government is to follow Westminster in banning disposable vapes but they should take the lead by banning vaping completely in Scotland.

The inhalation of any smoke particles is dangerous and damaging to the breathing function and lung tissue.

Vaping products should only be available strictly by prescription as a means of helping people to stop smoking cigarettes.

Dennis Grattan, Aberdeen

■ I can’t believe with all the problems with our NHS the Health Secretary Victoria Atkins is focusing on vaping.

People live their lives as they wish and don’t need to be told what they can and can’t do.

I suggest she sorts out more important issues, such as paying our doctors and nurses properly. People would rather the NHS was adequately funded than cuts to taxes and false promises just to win the election.

The Tories treat people like fools. The PM is out of his depth and has no idea how to run a country.

J Jackson, Poole, Dorset

■ I agree with the banning of disposable vapes. Apart from the health issues, this is becoming a major recycling problem.

The streets near me are littered with these vapes and the packaging they come in.

Kids need protecting from these products and now, it would seem, so does the planet.

Joe Donnelly, Haslingden, Lancs

■ It should be up to the parents to stop their kids from vaping. These new restrictions are going to affect those of us who enjoy vaping and like to have a range of flavours.

First we are told vaping is less harmful than cigarettes – which it is – now they’re trying to stop us from doing this as well.

What’s next? Banning sugar?

C Scott, Liverpool

■ It is about time all smoking and vaping in public places was made illegal so non-smokers can breathe cleaner air instead of second-hand smoke from cigarettes and vapes.

If they want to smoke and vape, they can do it in their own homes.
