Muriel body evidence is ‘compelling’
Cops ‘will start dig within weeks’ after watching footage of killer’s revelation
POLICE could start a fresh dig for Muriel McKay within weeks thanks to “compelling” new evidence about her burial site.
Muriel was kidnapped in 1969 after being mistaken for the thenwife of Rupert Murdoch and held to ransom for £1million at a farm.
Det Supt Katherine Goodwin met her daughter, Dianne, 84, and relatives on Wednesday.
The family showed her footage of their January meeting with her killer Nizamodeen Hosein, 76.
“The Metropolitan Police are 100% on board,” Muriel’s grandson Mark Randolph Dyer said after the meeting.
“They’re checking our evidence. It’s success everywhere but the main success will be finding her and putting an end to all this.”
Mr Dyer said he was told by police that detectives would begin searching “in the next few weeks” depending on ground conditions.
DS Goodwin watched the videos of Hosein showing the family on a map where he claimed he buried Muriel at Rooks Farm, in Stocking Pelham, Herts.
She told the family: “What you have come back with is compelling and is making me question whether we have reached the threshold of whether this is good enough [to start digging]. I feel from what we’re seeing that [Hosein] is being quite specific [about the location of the body].
“We will now review and assess this information to determine the next steps in our investigation.
“We understand how difficult this matter has been for Muriel’s family and are still working to recover her remains.”
Muriel, 55, was murdered by Hosein and his older brother, Arthur, who died in prison in 2009. Hosein was deported to his native Trinidad after serving 20 years.
The brothers denied killing Muriel but were given life sentences after one of the UK’s first murder trials without a body having been found.
