Save us all from PM’s selfish plan

-

■ RISHI Sunak continually says Keir Starmer has no plan. Although clearly untrue, this is his response to any question or challenge.

Perhaps someone should tell him you only need a detailed plan if you are the Government, not when in opposition, until there is a general election.

The Tories have had plans for 14 years. What needs examining is the effect of their plans, other than to help the wealthy.

There has been insufficient access to dental and medical care, struggling social services and insufficient care of the old, infirm and those with mental health problems. Not to mention damage to all council services and vanishing youth clubs and libraries.

Shoplifting and knife crime is rocketing and people in huge numbers are unable to feed their families without foodbanks.

Whose plans and achievements should we look closely at?

■ Many people joined the poll tax demonstrations and won against Thatcher and her government. So why aren’t people having demonstrations about how our social services and the NHS have been deliberately run into the ground over the last 14 years?

Why have so many youth clubs, swimming baths and libraries closed? Why has the number of foodbanks increased in that time and homelessness gone through the roof ?

Our society is broken under the Tories and we should be out demonstrating. I’d be happy to join a protest but I can’t do it alone. Harry Duffin

■ I have just learned that a frail, almost 90-year-old lady who is wheelchair-bound, was admitted to hospital where she had to wait 48 hours on a trolley before being found a bed.

This just shows how our overstretched NHS is at breaking point – the Tories have run it into the ground.

These older patients worked hard when they were young and paid taxes.

Instead of pumping money abroad and wasting millions on silly schemes there should be more put into our failing NHS.

■ What is happening to our beloved country? We are falling apart. Schools and hospitals deteriorating, coastal resorts collapsing, potholes, flooding, shops closing, towns becoming ghost towns. I could go on. And what does this government do?

Sends taxpayers’ money abroad, instead of repairing this country first. I no longer see us as Great Britain, just Britain.

Jean Kesteven, Tadley, Hants

■ How the Tories like to blow their own trumpets. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has the cheek to say their plan is working, we must stick to the long-term plan.

They keep going on about Labour not having a plan but no one knows what its long-term plan is. Labour defers from disclosing their intentions as every time they share a project, three months later, as if by magic, the Tories announce an almost identical one.

■ When will this country stand up and say enough is enough?

This government has cut services to the point that nothing seems to work. We need a general election or it will just get worse.
