PM needs to call an election now
IT will be an act of criminal irresponsibility by a desperate Chancellor if unaffordable tax cuts are offered in the next budget.
This will inevitably impact on an already struggling NHS and our education services.
The sooner we see the back of this useless shower, the better. Stuart Magrath, Wigan
Please can someone tell me how many more corners the economy has to turn before anyone believes this government when they say it is recovering?
It strikes me that the Tory government spends most of the time on a roundabout. Why not bring back Iain Duncan Smith, at least he’s got the correct initials for the economy. IDS: “In Deep Sh**”.

I’ve lost count of the number of recessions we’ve had under this government and now Jeremy Hunt is considering spending cuts.
If the Conservative paymasters paid their taxes instead of avoiding them by using offshore tax havens, cuts to our spending wouldn’t need to be made. Let’s hope we can get them out in the next election, and get Labour back in government.
Joe Thompson Moodie Grove, Oxon
Nobody should be surprised that we have dropped into a recession when we are being led by a PM who lost to Liz Truss. Sadly it’s the British public that are having to suffer because of the incompetence of our lame duck government.
The only ones making profits during this time are the friends and donors of our present government, and of course the PM himself who is doing very nicely, especially as he doesn’t seem to pay the same taxes as the rest of the hard-working public.
We need a general election to get rid of this self-serving government.
Anthony Probert Marcle Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire
After suffering more safe Tory seat by-election defeats, their excuse was: it’s disappointing but there’s still all to play for at the election.
But a recession, public spending cuts, transport and NHS strikes, a failed migration policy, long hospital appointment waits, and no dentists are just a few disappointments the rest of us have to live with.
A Tory tsunami election massacre awaits,
Reg Barrett, Southminster, Essex
Once again, these Tories have been found lying to the nation.
Last year, Rishi Sunak stated our country’s economy would grow but it’s not grown and we are now in recession. If Sunak thought not telling the truth would take the heat off him, he’s totally wrong.
But unlike the rest of this country he’s not going to notice price rises because he travels mostly by RAF jets and helicopters.
Tony Howard, Salford
The continual delays for a general election are mostly because Rishi Sunak is waiting for an upturn in the economy or for the public to see the Tories in a good light to claw back some votes.
That’s going well with the recession, isn’t it?
All he can do is try to save a few seats and, based on your report (Mirror, February 15), he’s going to be the first non-elected PM to have the biggest ever significant failure for the Tories. The longer he delays, the fewer seats they’ll have.
If he wants to save any Tory seats, going to the electorate now, not in autumn, has to be a good idea. Geoff Willmetts Bridgwater, Somerset
