Let’s do this together

- Edited by SIOBHANMcNALLY

The Dark Lord is smack bang in the middle of her science mocks this week and she woke up yesterday morning asking me to put the periodic table on for her.

“Do you mean shower?” I asked the sleepy teenager, putting a cup of tea down by her bed, then immediately moving it as the evil minion kitten, Ronnie, nearly had a boiling hot bath.

“I take it you had a bad night’s sleep?” I asked, wondering if it was wise to let the kitten stay in her bedroom overnight in order to keep him apart from our two-year-old tabby Dan Dan.

“Is the Lord of Chaos and Kibble waking you up?” I asked. But she insisted it’s fine.

“No – I’m just having bad dreams about the structure of atomic models and volumes and gases,” she said, yawning, and staggered to the bathroom. “I’m not surprised with the smell of that overnight kitten litter tray in here,” I said, holding my nose.

“I never thought I’d miss the smell of rotting food debris in your bedroom.”

Evil minion has only been with us a week, and hopefully it won’t be long before we can allow him to roam free, but Dan Dan has sadly decided not become best friends with the mini monster, and instead wants to rip his head off.

Just the sound of Ronnie’s mews has Dan Dan spitting and hissing like an EastEnders landlady.

Finally ready to go in for her chemistry exam, TDL handed the yowling kitten to me.

“Xyron’s crying, can you look after him?” she asked, and left me literally holding the baby for the day. This final betrayal was too much for Dan Dan, who refused to come back in the house, and despite the Force 10 gales and vertical rain, now sits outside on the top of the compost bin, looking daggers at me.

The stand-off continues…
