I arrested Couzens... then urged him to come clean Cop on nabbing Sarah killer
THE detective who arrested Wayne Couzens has told of the moment the murdering police officer was nabbed.
And Nick Harvey revealed he urged Sarah Everard’s killer to tell him where her body was as he lied about his involvement.
Couzens admitted he had snatched the 33-year-old marketing executive from a South London street in 2021 but claimed he handed her over to an eastern European gang.
Speaking for the first time about the officer’s arrest, Mr Harvey described the moment he knocked on his door. He said: “All the colour just ran out of his face. He just went grey.”
Mr Harvey is shown in a new documentary pleading with the evil killer to come clean about where he hid Sarah’s body after raping and killing her. He tells him: “At some point you’re going to end up looking her family in the eyes.
“You’ve got an opportunity to help us find Sarah and bring her back home to her family”.
Couzens replied: “Hand TRAGIC Sarah on heart, I don’t know where she is.” Mr Harvey told of his dismay when he found out the suspect in Sarah’s murder was a police officer with the Met’s diplomatic protection group.
He said: “It’s just one of those moments that the bottom falls out of your stomach. It’s just a shocking thing to hear.
“I take a lot of pride in being a detective. I loved it. It’s a big part of my identity. Part of your own trust has been shaken, my wife would have got in that car, no doubt in my mind.”
Mr Harvey, who has since left the Met, was speaking ahead of BBC1’s Sarah Everard: The Search for Justice, which airs tonight. It includes footage of Couzens being grilled, replying “no comment” to questions.
He is told by a female detective: “People trust us to look after them. People trust us to help them. Protect and serve, that’s what they say, isn’t it?” Sarah was snatched in Clapham as she walked home from a friend’s. Couzens, 51, is serving life.
