IT AIN’T HEND OF THE LINE JUST YET JORD
JORDAN HENDERSON is a “warrior” who is doing everything possible to make the Euros.
That was the verdict from the Johan Cruyff Arena on Thursday night as the 33-year-old continued the rebuilding job he has undertaken at Ajax.
Henderson looked unflustered against Unai Emery’s highflying Aston Villa in the Europa Conference
League as he stepped up his efforts to play in the Euros.
The former Liverpool skipper (top) is facing a race against time to convince Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate that he has what it takes to board the plane for Germany in three months.
Southgate travelled to Holland to see the ex-Liverpool skipper in action and Ajax manager John van t’ Schip said that has has made a big impact.
“He’s a professional,” said the former Holland international, “Jordan’s a leader, you can see it on the pitch, the boys accept and feel that.
“He helps the team a lot in that kind of way.
“Yes, he had a difficult start. He came out of Saudi Arabia and didn’t play for one month and wasn’t happy. But he immediately found his pleasure in training and playing. “Initially, he was a bit upset that we didn’t get the results he wanted. But he’s a warrior.”
Henderson has also been offering tips on performance that he has shared with his new club. Van t’ Schip (above) added: “Jordan has also been talking about things that can improve the environment we perform in.
“But it is on the pitch where he has had an effect.
“I think Southgate knows very well what he can get from Jordan.”
Southgate has always had faith in Henderson and appears likely to name him in the squad for the forthcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.
