Let’s do this together

- Edited by SIOBHAN McNALLY

I’m not much of a one for celebrations – but today is the fourth anniversary of the first ever Community Corner on March 18, 2020.

A lot has happened since that fateful year and I’m pleased to tell you I haven’t had a single slice of banana bread, which became the unofficial snack of the Covid pandemic.

Back then, my 11-year-old daughter was still talking to me and hadn’t yet turned into the Bringer of Chaos, Harbinger of Doom and Energy Sucker – or The Dark Lord for short.

But I know that underneath the door-slamming, gin-smuggling, and Oscar-worthy moaning, my little girl is still in there. Just a bit more PlayStation addicted than before, and definitely less given to any overt displays of affection.

These days the most loving text I get from her is, “URGENT – we’re running low on Nando’s sauce.”

The swotty preteen hated having to stay home from school and do her lessons online during lockdown.

Once she hit puberty, the emo teenager’s school attendance barely hit double figures, and they certainly wouldn’t recognise her if she walked into a PE class by accident.

But recently she’s knuckled down for her exams, and even started cooking for herself, so I’m hoping to be made redundant some time before she hits 30.

As for me, well I’ve stayed pretty much the same, although I never did go back to wearing any clothes with tight waistbands after the pandemic.

I hope you’ll stick around for more reader chats about the old days, and that you’ll keep sending us your fantastic art and craft creations, tell us about your achievements and all your cute pets.

Spring is finally here but my backyard still looks like the Somme, so I’m looking forward to seeing all your glorious gardens.

Whatever it is you’re doing, I’d love to hear about it – because this page is nothing without all of you.
