Red wall will not fall for more lies

- Edited for the final time by FIONA PARKER

REGARDING the idea Boris Johnson could campaign for the Tories, I am astounded that so many British people still consider him to be a worthy politician to be brought back into Parliament.

He was a failed London Mayor, a failed foreign secretary, and an unworthy prime minister who disgraced Parliament and democracy and brought so much grief to us, the British people.

What kind of mindset do the voters who want to see him return have? When it comes to general elections, it seems many develop an amnesia that can’t be explained.

We wonder what American Republicans see in Donald Trump but we have a Poundshop Trump on our doorstep.

So we hear the increasingly desperate Tories may try to get Boris to campaign for them in the red wall seats. Is this the same Boris that presided over the No10 parties and was forced to jump before he was pushed?

The very same who promised great things for the North like HS2 and levelling up?

Isn’t this taking the idea of recycling a step to far? Surely, those savvy people of the North are not going to fall for his lies again are they?

I allowed myself a wry smile when hearing rumours the Conservatives may approach Boris Johnson in time for the election. It’s doubtful Johnson would fall for this.

He would more likely wait until after the imminent political annihilation of the party this year, then rejoin with a mass intake of fresh faces in time for 2029, probably one without the ineffectual Rishi Sunak.

However, Johnson would be 65 by then so would he even bother?

Either way my suggestion to would-be voters is to ignore the ballot box until we are afforded a fair democratic system of proportional representation.

The Tories are thinking of bringing Johnson back to try to shore up support in the red wall seats. I wonder if they will fight on a pledge to get Brexit done and if they’ll provide fridges for Johnson to hide in when he gets the response he deserves.

We were amazed to see in The Big Question that someone said having Johnson on the doorstep would be worth millions of votes (Your Voice, March 14).

We still have his leaflet from the last election stating the Tories would build 40 new hospitals, reduce waiting times, build more affordable houses and improve schools. All lies, of course. People must have very short memories. Phil Durrant, Wellington, Shrops

If Johnson walked up my garden path to campaign for the Tories, I’d politely ask him to remove himself and if he hadn’t gone in 30 seconds, I’d help him out with the tip of my shoe up his backside.

We don’t want him, we don’t need him and we don’t like him! Graham Toon, Birmingham

Thank you, Paul Routledge, for telling it like it is about “Partygate scoundrel” Boris Johnson (Mirror, March 15).

If he does show his face in the red wall, I hope my fellow northerners give him short shrift. He shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the seat of power again. Barry Grant
