Our Lotto £1m will let us live in comfort for the time Ian has left
Terminally ill husband and carer wife in bungalow joy
A WOMAN who cares for her terminally ill husband says he will now be able to see out his days in comfort after they won £1million.
Marlyn and Ian Anderson say their lottery luck could not have come at a better time and plan to splash out on a bungalow. Ian, 77, needs a constant supply of oxygen for his scarred lungs,
Marlyn, 70, said: “Winning the lottery can buy you things you couldn’t afford but it can’t buy your health, so the next best thing is make your life as comfortable as you can. Ian is unable to get upstairs. His health is deteriorating and he struggles to breathe so we have our living room set up like a bedsit.
“It couldn’t have come at a better time. It will ensure Ian has the very best quality of life in the time he has left.”
Ian believes his conditions – pleural plaques and pulmonary fibrosis – are due to being exposed to asbestos while working in the construction industry.
Marlyn said that before his illness they would travel abroad to countries including Australia. They matched the winning UK Millionaire Maker code in the EuroMillions draw on March 12.
Marlyn said: “I don’t think the news has fully sunk in yet. Buying a bungalow will allow Ian to have his own bedroom and for us to have a sitting room too.
“This will be so special as it is something we haven’t been able to do for such a long time. He will be able to live the rest of his life in comfort.”
The couple from Stirling, Scotland, have been married for 32 years and have two children, five grandchildren and a greatgrandchild. Marlyn bought the ticket after finding £4.90 in her online lottery account.
She said: “I thought there is no point £4.90 sitting in my account, I’ll buy a lucky dip ticket.
“I logged on to my emails to see if there was any news. I initially thought we’d won £1,000 and I was absolutely delighted – then I started to count the zeroes, and couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
