Foxes to sue Prem and EFL
LEICESTER CITY have taken off the gloves in their ongoing row with officialdom – by going legal.
The Foxes have hit both the Premier League and English Football League with proceedings in a twinpronged attack.
Leicester, favourites for automatic promotion from the Championship under boss Enzo Maresca (above), are fighting on two fronts against the governing bodies.
They are battling the Premier League after being referred to an independent commission for alleged breaches of the financial rules.
Leicester claim they are being treated unfairly after they were hit for failing to stay within the agreed limits of losses during their time in the competition. They have also been called to account over a failure to submit their accounts on time.
And Leicester have acted similarly against the EFL, who are seeking to bring a punishment against the club over its financial reporting during the 2023-24 campaign.
The Foxes won one battle against the EFL earlier this month when an independent panel found in its favour, saying the governing body acted outside its powers in bringing the action. However, Leicester took the matter a stage further today.
A spokesman said: “Leicester City has been compelled to issue two urgent legal proceedings against the Premier League and the EFL.
“Leicester City will be seeking that each of these proceedings is determined by an appropriate and fully independent legal panel.
“We will continue to fight for the right of Leicester City and all clubs to pursue their ambitions, particularly where these have been reasonably and fairly established through sustained sporting achievement.”
The EFL has also hit the Foxes with a transfer embargo over its rules on profit and sustainability.
