Gogglebox George Gilbey dead at 40
Tributes pour in for reality TV star after fall
HIS cheeky smile as he sat alongside him mum and stepdad on Gogglebox brought him fans and fame.
But tragically reality TV star George Gilbey has died at the age of just 40 after a fall.
He appeared on the Channel 4 show with mum Linda and Pete McGarry from 2013, and went on to appear in Celebrity Big Brother in 2014.
His sister paid tribute to George, who had a sevenyear-old daughter, Amelie Iris Gilbey, writing:
“Rest in eternal paradise brother. Far too young but God only takes the best.” Essex Police said yesterday: “We received a report of an incident in Shoebury [Southend-on-Sea] at around 10am, during which a man who was working at height had fallen and sustained an injury.
“The ambulance service including air ambulance were in attendance. Sadly, the man died at the scene.”
Former Geordie Shore star Ricci Guarnaccio paid tribute to his friend George, writing: “Breaks my heart but George you are well and truly going to be missed my friend.
“Always lit up the room, cared for others & the memories we made I’ll cherish for ever brother. From CBB to speaking to you last week, I’m going to hugely miss you ma boiii! Love you G.”
He said George had an accident at work. “Spoke with his sister, happened early hours of this morning,” he added. “Accidental death.”
In 2016, the family had returned to Gogglebox, before Gilbey left two years later and Linda and Pete continued until 2020.
The following year, Pete died at the age of 71, days after he was told he had six months to live, having been being diagnosed with bowel cancer. Devastated Linda, who was mum to two sons, said at the time: “Pete was a lovely man and I was so lucky to have him for 25 years.”
She and Pete, a father to two daughters from his first marriage, fostered more than 100 children together.
Ex-EastEnders actress Danniella Westbrook also paid tribute: “Gone too soon. Good night, my darling friend George. I’m absolutely gutted.”
