Truss rich on tainted legacy

-

■ Liz Truss rejected the advice of our late Queen to “pace yourself ”. Her financial position goes a little way to explain why she chose to ignore that as she’s very quickly amassed a personal fortune estimated to be £8.4million.

This pot is topped up by her salary, plus expenses as MP, and further income from speeches, allegedly at £15,000 an hour.

Remember this at the next election. If you have a Conservative candidate, who probably supports this greed and self interest, to vote for a change to bring about a more just and fair society.

Remember the lies and deceit, the number of prime ministers, the scandals and mistrust, and the damage this government has done to our society and democracy.

■ What a joke that Liz Truss thinks her memoir could set out a plan for the future. She made a mess of the country and now thinks she’s in a position to say something credible.

No wonder polls have her as the least popular top politician in the country. If this is an attempt to improve her image it won’t work. Her book is basically just a series of rants about the fight against the “global left”.

She couldn’t save her own job so how does she think she can “save” the west?

Mark my words, this book will be in the bargain bucket at Waterstones before long.

■ Reading Lizzy Buchan’s piece (Daily Mirror, April 9) on Liz Truss’s meeting with the late Queen, as related in her book Ten Years to Save the West, I was struck by an ironic thought.

It absolutely galls me that this already wealthy woman will profit more than handsomely from her 49 days of disaster at the helm. This included a significant reduction in the value of the pound following the ridiculous Kwasi Kwarteng budget she oversaw.

Any mention of the proceeds going to charity? No, I thought not. Sam Johnson, Blackpool

■ It is obvious that Liz Truss has learnt nothing from her disastrous but mercifully short stint as PM. She is still blaming left wingers and wokery for her failure despite the fact that it was the global capitalist system that she says she believes in that actually brought her down.

It isn’t the left that are the danger to civilisation but those right wingers who think that creating wealth and exploiting power for their own interests is more important than helping other human beings, creating a better society,

protecting the environment, or even maintaining democracy.

Anyone who isn’t rich and evil who votes for the Tories or for Reform is just a gullible fool. Brett Grainger, Rugeley, Staffs

■ I suppose Liz Truss is still an MP with an MP’s responsibilities regarding her constituents – so who was looking after her duties as a member of parliament while she was swanning off around the globe raking in cash for telling people how she nearly wrecked the British economy?

■ Liz Truss was the shortest serving prime minister in British history. The very fleeting time she was in power she made a right mess of it. It’s time to get rid of the Tories once and for all. Mike Chambers, Hull

■ In her book, Liz Truss reveals the Queen’s advice to pace herself to avoid ageing fast as PM. But what about Rishi Sunak? He doesn’t appear to be ageing at all. Is he idle or does he dye his hair? Other choices are no doubt available. Geoff Willmetts, Bridgewater
