I think this tops my sister’s new caravan..
Dinner lady and husband win £3m mansion in draw
A DINNER lady coming to terms with winning a £3million seafront mansion joked: “It just about tops my sister’s new caravan.”
Rose Doyle, 73, downed a large brandy after realising she and husband Tony had won a prize draw.
The couple are now planning to move from their £300,000 three-bed semi in Birmingham – their home for 44 years – into a stunning five-bedroom pad in Cornwall with a Jacuzzi and balcony.
The gran of four and gas engineer Tony, 65, also pocketed £100,000 in the Omaze Million Pound House Draw.
As they popped the champagne, Rose said: “When they confirmed the prize I was an emotional wreck. This win is lifechanging. It’s fantastic for our family’s future – they won’t have to struggle as much as we had to.”
The couple have been together for 46 years and have a 51-year-old daughter and son aged 49. Two of their four grandchildren currently live with them.
Rose said: “I will never get bored of walking onto the balcony and taking in these stunning views.
“We’ve been to Cornwall once in the 1980s for a family holiday – we never imagined we’d own a £3m mansion here. My sister just bought a caravan in Somerset, but I think this just about tops that.
“We’ve got a large extended family, so they’ll all be wanting to book their holidays down here.”
Tony is now considering early retirement and Rose added: “All our neighbours came out into the street to say congratulations – they were all so
happy for us. The whole
thing still feels like a dream.” Rose recently quit as a sales assistant at an insurance firm after 17 years and works as a dinner lady at a primary school. Estate agents say the home, near the village of St Agnes, could be rented out for up to £4,000 a month and Rose said: “I’m not sure what we’re going to do long term – we’ll definitely enjoy it as a family for a bit. It’s going to change all our lives.”
The Omaze draw also raised £3.1m for the World Wide Fund for Nature.
