Q Could you please advise me on how to get rid of moss that has managed to invade my artificial grass? I don’t know if moss killer would stain or discolour the grass. Stuart Hayes, via email

A Pour boiling water over the moss and leave it for a day or two then rake it out. Regular maintenance is needed to stop it coming back. You can also buy an artificial grass vacuum.

Q I clean in a lovely little church but over the years wax has been spilt on the grey stone steps and left a stain. How do I remove it? Marion Robertson, via email

A Lithofin WAX-OFF is a good product and will also remove, tar, oil, glue and sealant. It contains solvents so it just dissolves the wax and you simply wash with clean water.

Q We have railings (painted black) at the front of our property and the paint is starting to peel. How can I deal with this please? Su Howard, via email

A You need to sand down the existing paint – this is important – and wash down with white spirits. Then use a quality metal paint. I would sugest Hammerite which is excellent.

Q The polycarbonate sheeting in my conservatory roof has broken down and there is now moisture inside which stays there all year long. Can this be remedied? Kelvin, via email

A I wish there was a magic solution for this but if the roofing panels have deteriorated to the extent they have broken down, then sometimes it’s best to replace them. When the sealant breaks down at the top of the panels and water fills the hollow section in between, the panel can be removed, cleaned and resealed. But, to be honest with you, with the effort involved you’d be better off just replacing the panels.
