A GRAN stabbed to death in a bungled bag snatch was “devoted to her family”, her grieving loved ones have said.

Anita Mukhey, 66, died after being stabbed near a bus stop by a would-be mugger.

Good Samaritans desperately tried to save her life as she lay in the street after the attack at about 11.50am on Thursday.

Witnesses told how they saw the victim being repeatedly knifed as she clung to her bag during a “robbery gone wrong” in Edgware, North London.

In a statement, her family said she was a “married mother and grandmother devoted to her family”, and who worked in the NHS as a medical secretary.

Anita was comforted by shop workers who rushed to her aid. Driver Khalif Gureye, 36, stopped his car and dialled 999. He said: “It’s horrible. I see a lady on the floor and she is bleeding.”

Ambulance and air ambulance paramedics treated Anita for stab injuries but she died at the scene.

Jalal Debella, 22, has appeared at Willesden magistrates court charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

Debella, of Colindale, North London, who was arrested on the day of the attack, was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey tomorrow.

Floral tributes were laid at the bus stop and a memorial service was held for Anita in Cricklewood, North London, yesterday.
