Crew forced to abandon burning ship
MORE than 80 crew fled an offshore construction ship following a fire and a series of explosions.
Emergency services were called to the Fugro Symphony, which was in port at Peterehead Harbour, just before 3am yesterday.
More than 35 firefighters battled the blaze but no one was injured and the crew are now sheltering in the local Fishermens’ Mission.
It is thought an electrical malfunction caused the fire. A Fugro spokesman said: “The blaze was contained in a small area of the vessel.”
