Cops lied to us that natural causes killed our Christina
BLUE PLAGUE VICTIM’S FAMILY HIT OUT Truth about mum’s death emerged as new batch of pills flooded streets
THE FAMILY of a victim of fake Valium have accused police of lying to them over her death.
A detective allegedly told mum-of-one Christina Craig’s grieving relatives that she died of natural causes after taking prescription drugs.
But the fiscal service later told them that she had a benzodiazepine called diclazepam in her system.
The drug is a different one from those found in the system of other people killed by the “blue plague” pills.
Diazepam and etizolam have been more commonly seen in the spate of deaths in Toryglen, Glasgow, which the Record has exposed.
And the family believe that means that while they were being told Christina, 43, died of natural causes, a new version of the pills was flooding on to the streets.
One relative said: “The fiscal was giving a completely different story from what I was being told by CID.
“I don’t understand why I would be palmed off with a story about natural causes when the reality is another version of these deadly drugs is in circulation.
“The police seem to be more intent on getting me off their case than investigating Christina’s death.
“The policeman went as far as telling me the family should take comfort in the fact that she died peacefully in her sleep. It was blatant lies to a family not being allowed to grieve for their loved one.
“I spoke to another family member given the same story by the same policeman, so there’s no doubt about what he said, no misunderstanding on our part.” Christina died in November, the fourth of six friends in Toryglen to fall victim to the fake Valium in eight months. Dealers kept selling pills despite knowing people were dying. After the Record revealed the death toll, police re-interviewed family members and raided three suspected dealers. Christina’s relative said the action only came because of the adverse publicity. She said: “After Christina died, people repeatedly gave the names of the drug dealers to police but nothing happened.” Police said the investigation into Christina’s death was continuing and it would be inappropriate to comment. The revelations about Christina’s death come days after drug dealer Steven Russell, 20, was stabbed to death in Possilpark, Glasgow, after being accused of selling dodgy fake pills.
