These are such uncertain times. We’re leaving Europe, will Scotland now leave the UK? The ground is shifting under our feet and many of us don’t know what to hold on to. I’m always suspicious of people who have unwavering beliefs and opinions, who are absolutely one way only and will not change that view – whatever the circumstances. Unlike my younger days, I find myself increasingly on the fence. Why? Because I don’t think any of us has all the answers and I am turned off by the astonishing arrogance of those who only play the same tune – often very loudly and quite off-key. So, after 44 years and a week off work, I have arrived at this conclusion: Compassion and consideration will lead to the best decisions. And these are my only certainties.
