TRUMP’S TRAVEL BAN No2

Six countries are named

- JULIE PACE reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk

DONALD Trump yesterday signed a new travel ban order for people from six Muslim-majority countries.

The US president’s 90-day ban order replaces the one blocked by a number of courts last month.

Unlike that one, it will not affect people from the named countries – Sudan, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia and Yemen – who already have valid US visas.

Another change is the removal of Iraq from the list of countries affected.

According to the White House, Iraq was exempted because of increased co-operation on vetting.

The revised order is to come into effect on March 16 and will retain a 120-day suspension of the US refugee programme.

But Syrian refugees, who had faced an indefinite ban under the original order, will be treated the same as other nationalities.

Meanwhile, the FBI are disputing Trump’s claim that Barack Obama ordered the tapping of his telephones during last year’s election, according to reports.

The president demanded on Sunday that Congress probe the claims – but offered no evidence to support them.

The New York Times have reported FBI head James Comey asked the justice department to confirm the tapping claims are untrue because they falsely suggest the FBI broke the law.

The Obama camp have described the allegations as completely false and a diversion from Trump’s alleged links with Russia.
