A red-hot Currie can add spice to Jambos
HEARTS boss Ian Cathro admits Rory Currie is one of the few bright lights from his tough start at Tynecastle.
The 19-year-old made his debut under predecessor Robbie Neilson as a sub in last November’s convincing victory over Motherwell.
But he’s since gone on to make six more first-team appearances since the dugout reshuffle with Cathro even handing the marksman a full debut in the recent loss at Patrick Thistle.
Isma Goncalves, Dylan Bikey and Bjorn Johnsen are all battling to lead the line but Currie’s emergence has given his under-pressure gaffer some food for thought.
Cathro said: “Rory is one of the guys I’m particularly pleased with in terms of how he’s grown and is becoming more comfortable.
“His development should remain calm and gradual but it’s interesting for us.”
Cathro put the squad through a double training session on Saturday with his side having a free weekend due to their Scottish Cup elimination to Hibs.
The 30-year-old, who has only won four of his 15 games in charge, hopes having extra time to work with the players will stand them in good stead ahead of Saturday’s visit of Hamilton.
Cathro said: “It’s difficult to discuss positives. This is one of our tough moments.
“But we have time to work together which is important to improve things tactically.”
