POLICE are investigating whether the sudden death of a 14-year-old boy is linked to prescription drugs.

Liam McAlpine was found in his bedroom by his devastated dad William, 44.

Emergency services raced to their home in Glenrothes on Sunday afternoon but the teenager couldn’t be saved.

Fife Council have sent a warning to parents of pupils at all three high schools in the town about three prescription drugs being circulated among children – anti-depressant Citalopram, antihistamine Fexofanadine and beta blocker Bedranol.

Police, who are treating Liam’s death as “unexplained”, are probing whether there’s a link.

Tributes have been flooding in for the teenager, including a moving Facebook post by his sister Chelsea, 17, to “the best and only brother I had”.

Friends set up a fundraising page to raise money for his funeral. Liam’s mum Tracy, 37, who lives in Kingskettle, near Glenrothes, commented: “It’s a comfort to know how loved my little man was not only by his family but so many friends too.”

The Glenrothes High pupil died just days after he posted videos on YouTube about being gay and bullying at the school.

His head teacher Avril McNeill said: “We are all deeply saddened by the news of Liam’s death and our thoughts are with his family.

“Liam was a cheerful, pleasant and likeable pupil with an excellent attendance record. He will be missed within our school community.

“We have a robust anti-bullying policy at Glenrothes High. I’d urge anyone who is feeling threatened or vulnerable to report this to someone they trust.”
