I’m still working but I didn’t hesitate to help

VICKY Simpson juggles her own work with helping to care for her grandson Kai so her daughter can continue her career.

The 51-year-old runs her own business Face Time Aesthetics, giving fillers and Botox, and also works part-time as a nurse.

She gave up working full-time as a nurse three years ago when her daughter Laura got pregnant and she offered to help with childcare.

Vicky, from Bellshill, Lanarkshir­e, said: “I didn’t hesitate. I knew she wouldn’t afford to be able to go back to work otherwise.

“She was worrying about childcare and I said we’d sort it.”

She has promised to help look after Kai until he goes to school – and although she’s had to turn down job opportunit­ies, she wouldn’t have it any other way as she enjoys spending time with her grandson.

Laura , 28, from Lanarkshir­e, really appreciate­s the childcare help from her mum, mother-in-law and stepmum – particular­ly as she works shifts. She said: “It helps us out a lot financiall­y as childcare is not the cheapest thing.”

Laura loves the fact her son can spend time with family.

Her grandparen­ts helped out when she was young so she had a really good relationsh­ip with them. Laura added: “I’m grateful Kai has that opportunit­y as well. It’s fun for him to see his grandparen­ts and a massive help for us too.” ANNE Ferguson helps look after her two grandsons as well as running a busy hairdressi­ng salon.

Anne, who is married to renowned hairdresse­r Taylor Ferguson, spends at least 15 hours a week with her grandkids – and says it keeps her fit and active.

At 66, she has no plans to give up work or looking after Taylor, eight, and Alexander, two.

When Anne and husband Taylor were building their business, her mum helped look after their son Taylor.

Anne said: “We moved into Glasgow to this salon when our son was four. He was more or less was brought up by my mother.”

She says husband Taylor particular­ly enjoys being with the grandkids becaus he didn’t have the chance t spend as much time with their son because of work.

Anne, who lives near Glasgow, said: “It’s just a jo to be part of their life and they enjoy it too although i can be tiring.”
