Chizzy will not be fazed by toughest test in darts

DAVE CHISNALL insists he won’t be Public Enemy No.1 at The SSE Hydro as he loves Glasgow and has his own Scottish fan club.

The popular St Helens slinger faces one of the toughest tests in darts tomorrow night when he tackles Gary Anderson in his own backyard.

Anderson will be backed to the hilt by the majority of the 10,000 passionate fans for the Betway Premier League clash but Chisnall is undaunted by the challenge and reckons he will have his own little corner of support.

He said: “Is it the toughest test you can get? Possibly.

“You can’t knock Peter Wright because he’s in top form but I’m playing Gary in his own world.

“When I first played at The Hydro against him I loved it. Glasgow is the best Premier League venue I have played at. I really enjoy it.

“The support is unbelievable. When I played there for the first time a few years ago I was really, really nervous.

“But I got great support from the crowd there and I don’t know why. They must like me. It will be the same this week. I will get the respect that Gary gets.

“I do a lot of exhibitions in Scotland and for some reason the people up there like me.”

Chisnall and Anderson could serve up a treat in the evening’s finale after a magical World Championship quarter-final clash at the Alexandra Palace in their previous on-stage meeting.

He said: “Gary and I always have great games and you know he will turn up as he always does.

“He can have the odd dart missed at double but he’s always there or thereabouts whereas with me I can just play bad all the way through a game.

“My consistency is a bit poor. It’s the practice. I don’t put enough in.

“It’s hard to practise when you are away a lot and have a young kid at home. They don’t want me locked away practising when I have just been away for three or four days.

“But I am going to be ready. I played two games last week and won both so I’m happy.”

Wright also heads to The Hydro in flying form having lifted his first TV title at the Coral UK Open last weekend.

Snakebite is looking to build on an excellent start to his own Premier League campaign.

And having managed to snare some major silverware he has immediately set his sights on winning more with the Premier League title next on his hitlist.

Wright, who faces James Wade, said: “I cleared all of my room of runners-up trophies. I want to fill it with winner’s ones.” Meanwhile, Michael van Gerwen has confirmed he expects to face Kim Huybrechts. The Dutch ace is planning to travel after missing the past week of tournaments with a back injury and is now hopeful of lining up at The Hydro. Van Gerwen said: “It’s feeling better each day and right now the plan is to play on Thursday in the Premier League. “I’m really looking forward to it.”
