Aussies Ashand burnin collapse

-

OFF-SPINNER Ravichandran Ashwin ripped through Australia’s second innings as India levelled the Test series 1-1 in emphatic fashion with a 75-run victory on day four in Bangalore.

Chasing 188 to win the second Test and take a 2-0 lead, Australia were well set at 74 for three when captain Steve Smith fell lbw to an Umesh Yadav shooter.

The rest folded in a hurry, unable to hold off the rampant Ashwin, and Australia’s last six wickets were snared at a cost of just 11 runs. Ranked No.1 in the world, Ashwin finished with figures of six for 41.

At the post-match press conference India captain Virat Kohli lashed out at the Aussies’ use of the decision review system.

Kohli revealed India have observed Australian players looking off field for help on reviews – which is not allowed under match conditions around DRS – on several occasions and were not willing to tolerate it.

He said: “They’ve been doing that for the last three days and this has to stop.”

England opener Alex Hales is in the reckoning to face West Indies in the third and final match of their ODI series in Barbados after completing his recovery from a broken hand.

Kevin Pietersen will play for Surrey in this summer’s NatWest T20 Blast.

Scotland duo Kyle Coetzer (City Kaitak) and Calum MacLeod (Kowloon Cantons) will clash on the opening day of the Hong Kong T20 Blitz.

ICE HOCKEY: Scottish trio Stephen Murphy, Mark Garside and Colin Shields have been named in Great Britain’s squad for a doubleheader against Poland on April 14 and 15.

SQUASH: Alan Clyne has been named as the No.4 seed for next week’s Wimbledon Club Open.

GOLF: Jack Doherty is in a five-way tie for the lead on one-over 73 and Grant Forrest is tied seventh after a 75 in the first round of the MENA Tour’s Qualifying School in Mazagan, Morocco.
