IT’S A STRIP-OFF DEL GETS SHIRTY

DEREK ADAMS admits he’s ditching his Plymouth Argyle side’s home strip because it’s too green.

The Scot fears the club’s colours are camouflaging the players against the green backdrop of their Home Park pitch and the stadium’s green seats.

So he has now ordered the players to pull on white socks to held them stand out more when they’re trying to find their teammates with a pass.

It’s the latest madcap move from Adams who earlier this week revealed he’ll withdraw the ball boys during home games whenever Argyle are winning.

But his decision to tinker with the team kit puts 41-year-old Adams in good company with another Scottish boss.

Back in 1996 Sir Alex Ferguson famously scrapped Manchester United’s grey away kit at half-time in favour of blue and white stripes when they were trailing 3-0 at Southampton because he felt the players were struggling to see each other.

Now Adams has followed Fergie’s lead as he explained why he might yet ditch the home kit altogether in favour of the all-white away colours as his side close in on promotion from England’s League Two.

Adams said: “We have an issue with the strip. We have changed to white socks because we feel the strip is too green.

“We don’t want to change too much but that’s not to say we won’t in the future. We just feel the white socks allow us to stand out more.

“I’ve had it before at other clubs where we’ve played with white socks many times. It definitely helps the players standing out.

“The green on green with the pitch and with the seating as well does blend in. We just need a greater brightness to see people.

“We just have to be careful in what we do because we have got to respect that the home shirt is the home shirt.

“But at times we will wear the away strip for home games.

“We have changed the design for next season. Everybody will be pleasantly surprised with the home and away kit.

“I don’t know if it will be a different shade of green but it will be a different design to this season.”

Adams’s decision might raise a few eyebrows but few at Home Park will question his calls at the moment with the former Ross County gaffer making a success of his start down south.

Argyle sit second in League Two and still trail leaders Doncaster by four points after last night’s home defeat by Blackpool.

But they look very much in the hunt for promotion having guided them to the play-off final in his first season last year.

But his most high-profile success this campaign was taking Liverpool back to Home Park for an FA Cup replay after battling to a gutsy 0-0 draw at Anfield in January.

Even the second game was a tight affair with Liverpool eventually emerging as 1-0 winners thanks to Lucas Leiva.

The green on green, with the pitch and seating, does blend in DEREK ADAMS
