Fancy a change of career?

-

CHANGING career can be daunting but, with a bit of thought and planning, you can easily achieve it.

Clare Riding, head of the Open University’s Careers and Employability Services, shares her top tips to help you: Interests Take a look at your existing interests and skills. You may enjoy exercise and sport, have a passion for the arts or be a creative thinker? Research careers that allow you to explore those interests at work. Values It’s important work doesn’t conflict with your personal values. If you’re independent, a more solitary environment might be best. If family is important, think about choosing a career with greater flexibility. Timing If you’re eager for change, you could also think about part-time study or even develop new skills while still in your current job. Lifestyle Careers are important but so is life outside of work. Many of us have families and we want to spend time with our friends. Think about what level of sacrifice you’re prepared to make in order to pursue your dream. Match Once you’ve found your ideal career, ensure you’re ready to succeed in securing the role. You may need to gain additional qualifications, but this needn’t take over. You can study at any time via distance learning.
