AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into how police responded to calls about a pensioner who was later found dead.

The 65-year-old woman’s body was discovered in a house in Ruchazie, Glasgow, on February 24.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner will look at what action police took after calls about her earlier that day.

A PIRC spokesman said: “The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service have instructed us to undertake an investigation.

“It will focus on the response from Police Scotland to telephone calls received by them about the woman on February 24.”

Police said the woman’s death in Ruchazie was not suspicious.

The PIRC are also to investigate the case of a man who was found dead at home two days after his family rang police.

The body of Barry Croal, 51, was discovered in his home in Fallin, near Stirling, on February 22. It is thought he had suffered a haemorrhage.

His daughter Sinead, 26, told our sister paper the Stirling Observer that the family contacted police to raise concerns on February 20 but were frustrated at the lack of response.

They rang again on February 22 and officers subsequently found Barry’s body.

Sinead said she doesn’t know if her dad could have been saved had police acted quicker.

The PIRC are also investigating the discovery of a man’s body in Kippen, Stirlingshire, on January 30.

Peter Ritchie, 42, who had been reported missing, was found dead about 110yds from his car – 24 hours after police looked but failed to find the vehicle.
