CALCUTT‘ EM UP

- GORDON PARKS g.parks@dailyrecord.co.uk

STUART HOGG last night insisted Scotland are ready to hunt down England and deliver a first Twickenham triumph for 34 years.

The Dark Blues talisman, right, talked up their Calcutta Cup

going to get in our way. I’m sitting here shaking – I just want to get out there and play.

“The boys have rested up well since the Wales game. We are excited – Twickenham is a great place to play.”

Scotland’s last visit to the home of English rugby saw them edged out 25-13 in 2015, despite leading at the interval.

But given their current form Hogg – who has scored three tries in the campaign – insists the level of expectation for this trip is fully justified.

He said: “Everybody is chuffed at how Scotland are going. We’re putting in good performances and wins on the board.

“It is nice to be talked up but it is now about backing it up. It is up to me to go out there and express myself. I love playing for Scotland and will do everything in my power to get a win.

“It has taken a couple of years to get to this position and we are now in a place to get wins on the board. We like to have a little bit of pressure.

“The last time we played here we were leading at half-time but it’s going to take a complete 80-minute performance to win.”

Hogg admits a first Calcutta Cup success since 2008 today would surpass his career high of a Pro12 title with Warriors two seasons ago.

He said: “It would be up there, that’s for sure. Winning a trophy with Glasgow was outstanding but a victory here today would be massive.

“Coming to Twickenham and getting a result would go down in history.”
