We need action ..not SNP talk

-

THE view from the First Minister’s official residence is of a Scotland constantly being denied power.

Whenever problems are pointed out, the instant SNP reaction is to blame Westminster and call for more control.

It suits the message that independence is the only logical step to take.

But Scotland is not without considerable power. Since 1999, the Scottish Parliament has won more and more control.

MSPs can now set tax like never before. And after years of campaigning, Holyrood and the Scottish Government have a real say in our own social security system.

So what is taking so long? Why can’t ministers get a move on?

Labour are reminding the SNP again today that social security powers are wide-ranging and available for use.

They want the SNP to confirm that private firms such as Atos will have no place in a bespoke system, made in Scotland.

Instead of something meaningful, the Scottish Government said “wait until June”.

It’s not the only area where actions need to match words.

But if you’re looking for clarity on the SNP’s driving ambition, independence, you’re also being put on hold. A week after Nicola Sturgeon pushed the button on IndyRef2, we still we don’t have a clue what her government imagine we’ll be using as a currency.

It’s time to direct serious attention to the hard-won powers Scotland already has. Show us you mean business.
