quit her job as a hairdresser to care for Ava.

“We try to make the most of every day,” she said. “Whether it be a good or bad day, every day Ava is alive is a gift.

“Life is not ‘easy’ or ‘normal’. It’s very difficult and stressful living with the threat of your child dying at any moment.

“But I tuck my broken heart away and get on with things, and concentrate on making Ava happy and comfortable.”

Julie’s great hope is that she will be able to take Ava to the Panama Stem Cell Institute in central America.

She says treatment there using the body’s “building block” cells has given other kids with similar conditions a better quality of life.

Doctors put stem cells into the patient’s body through a drip. The idea is that they will enter the child’s spinal fluid and repair some of the damage to the brain.

Time is of the essence. The younger Ava is when she gets to the Institute, the more successful the treatment is likely to be.

Julie says she entrusted money previously raised to a “third party” who now refuses to release it. Court action is likely but the family don’t have time to waste, so they are asking the public to help.

“Ava needs £17000 to cover the cost of her treatment, aftercare and transport to Panama,” said Julie.

“And she needs it as soon as possible to give her the chance she deserves.

“We don’t have months to wait while we pursue the previously raised money through the courts. Every day could be her last day.

“It is vital that we get Ava to Panama as soon as possible.” A FIFTH of British workers say their jobs cause them stress – and one in 10 describe their work as “horrible”.

The grim survey findings were published on the United Nations International Day of Happiness.

Business consultants Lee Hecht Harrison Penna surveyed 2000 people and found that more than a third had negative feelings about their jobs. One in seven associated work with unhappiness.

The authors of the study said it was good to see that 38 per cent of workers were wholly positive about ther jobs, but bosses had to do more to make sure all their staff were happy.
