WE’VE SCOTT TO BE CLINICAL
SCOTT McDONALD insists Motherwell must find a clinical edge to their play after failing to make the most of their chances in the defeat to St Johnstone.
The Aussie squandered a golden opportunity when he sliced wide with the goal at his mercy but made amends when he cancelled out Liam Craig’s opener before the Saints midfielder hit the winner.
McDonald, who hit his 10th goal of the season, said: “Well, you know why you came away with nothing because you didn’t take your chances, it’s as simple as that.
“You get punished when you don’t do that and far too many times there are too many individual errors. Every week we talk about it but we have to cut them out.
“We don’t get given goals at the other end but we still manage to make silly errors and put ourselves in silly positions. We need to cut that out. At the other end we had enough chances, particularly in the first half, to put them to the sword.
“I’ll put my hand up. I don’t know how I missed that. The goalie probably made contact at the right time but I should still score. I was just thankful I could put it right almost immediately.”
McDonald believes Brian Easton wrestled him in the box. The Aussie said: “We should definitely have had a penalty. It wasn’t just one hand, it was two hands.
“I keep saying it every week but there are so many things not going for us. It’s frustrating but there’s not a lot you can do as a player, you just have to accept it and move forward.”
