Fans stand United in tribute to hero Sean

- SEAN DILLON TESTIMONIAL

DUN UTD ........ 2 HEARTS ......... 2

SEAN DILLON had a night to remember as Dundee United fans paid tribute to him in his Tannadice testimonial match.

The Dubliner’s 10-yearplus service to the club was recognised as a crowd of 3260 turned out to show their appreciation.

Signed from Shelbourne in January 2017 by ex-United boss Craig Levein, Dillon was a 2010 Scottish Cup winner against Ross County at Hampden and only injury prevented him from starring in last night’s game.

A host of Cup winners and team-mates from seven years ago turned out on the night, including Jon Daly, Andy Webster, Craig Conway and Danny Swanson.

Hearts legend John Robertson was in the dugout for the Jambos who sent out a strong side.

Charlie Telfer came on for Ali Coote midway through the first half as United tried to give the crowd something to shout about, before Simon Murray replaced Dutchman Nick Van Der Velden.

Hearts almost snatched the lead five minutes before half-time, only for Stewart Murdoch to clear Rory Currie’s effort off the line.

Soon after, United kid Logan Chalmers saw his snapshot hit the bar.

Peter Houston, who led the Tangerines to cup glory in 2010, took over from gaffer Ray McKinnon at the start of the second half.

Levein also replaced Robertson in the Hearts dugout and saw United sub Barry Robson hit a spectacular own goal from virtually the halfway line to put the Jambos ahead.

Then, in 55 minutes, Currie increased the lead as he slotted home from close range. But in 60 minutes United pulled one back when Noel Hunt headed home from Daly’s assist.

It was an enjoyable night for everyone and rounded off when one of Dillon’s young Sons, Shea, fittingly equalised late on before the man himself was given a standing ovation at the end.
