Sinclair: I will never quit Celts to play for England

-

From Back Page season, with 18 goals and rave reviews as Celtic home in on the Treble after a decent campaign in the Champions League.

However, he was overlooked for his first full international call-up, with Southgate turning to veteran Jermain Defoe, 34, to lead the line for the Three Lions in Dortmund.

But Sinclair revealed he has never been happier in his career and while he still believes his England goals can be realised, he is in no rush to return to his homeland.

He said: “I’m enjoying every single moment. I’m in no rush to move back to the Premier League. I’m happy to play under a manager that believes in me.

“We’re winning trophies and you do think: ‘What more could you want?’ I’d still love to play for my country – I’ve definitely not given up on England. It’s about working hard, getting my form back – which I have – creating and scoring goals.

“Jermain’s call-up goes to show there is always time. My ambition is still there.”

Moussa Dembele has scored 32 goals in his first season in Scotland and came close to winning a call-up for France’s double-header against Luxembourg and Spain this week.

Sinclair looks at Celtic’s United Nations of talent and insists playing in Scottish football is not a barrier to success at international level.

He said: “Moussa will get a call-up soon. There aren’t many Englishmen playing Champions League football. International football is another level. It would be great to play for your country.”
