I WANT TO GET SAM PAYBACK

- ALAN MARSHALL sport@dailyrecord.co.uk

SLOVENIA star Miral Samardzic admits he’s gunning for revenge on Scotland this week after Aberdeen broke his heart in Europe.

The Scots take on the Slovenians in a World Cup showdown on Sunday in a must-win game for Gordon Strachan’s side.

Samardzic – who now plays for Turks Akhisar Belediyespor – is set to line up for Srecko Katanec’s side at Hampden.

But he insists he’s determined to get his revenge on the Scots after a disappointing experience two years ago.

Samardzic was then playing for Croatian club Rijeka against Aberdeen in the Europa League second qualifying round.

In the baking heat, the Dons secured a shock 3-0 away win thanks to goals from Andrew Considine, Peter Pawlett and Kenny McLean.

They completed the job with a 2-2 draw at Pittodrie in the return leg against Samardzic and Co and the stopper hasn’t forgotten. He said: “I hope to get sweet revenge on the Scots.

“We were surprised by Aberdeen in the first leg and lost 3-0 and that made it difficult for us.

“In Scotland we played much better but we could only draw 2-2 and we were eliminated which was a big disappointment.

“But I’ve also played against Scottish teams when I was with Maribor and won so it has not all been bad luck.

“I’ve played in various stadiums all around Scotland, but never at Hampden, so this is an experience I am looking forward to.

“We are aiming for the three points and we can get them with the squad we have.”
