Moira dive team find no remains

A POLICE search of a canal has failed to find any trace of schoolgirl Moira Anderson, who vanished 60 years ago.

Divers scoured a 185-yard stretch of the Monkland canal in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, after five “areas of interest” were identified.

Fresh evidence had emerged that 11-year-old Moira may have been dumped there the day after her disappearance on February 23, 1957.

But police have now said the search will be stood down with no remains having been found.

Moira is believed to have been killed by paedophile Alexander Gartshore, who died in 2006.

She is thought to have been targeted after boarding a public bus driven by Gartshore while on an errand for her grandmother.
