A MAN was jailed for 20 months yesterday for scalding the grandson of late crime clan matriarch Big Mags Haney behind bars.

Vincent Robertson, 54, an inmate in Glenochil jail, near Alloa, poured boiling sugared water on fellow prisoner James Kerr Cowan, a court heard.

His victim’s screams were heard around the landing.

Kerr Cowan, 41, was found with second-degree burns on his chest and abdomen already beginning to blister.

He was given first aid by a prison nurse before being sent to hospital.

Kerr Cowan, from Stirling, hit headlines in 2014 when police found him hiding a Stanley knife between his buttocks. Despite having more than 100 previous convictions then, he was sentenced to supervision for possessing a blade.

Robertson, from Fife, whose address was given on court papers as Glasgow’s Barlinnie prison, admitted to assaulting Kerr Cowan to his injury.

Prosecutor Graham McLachlan told Falkirk Sheriff Court that at the time of the incident in February last year, Robertson was serving a sentence in Glenochil.

He was seen carrying a kettle into Kerr Cowan’s cell.

Sheriff Craig Caldwell imposed a 20-month jail term, backdated to December. He said: “This is an extremely serious offence. Significant injury may have been caused to this other man, whatever offence he may have caused you.”
