260 STAFF FACE AXE AT ELECTRONICS FIRM

- HILARY DUNCANSON reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk

STAFF at an electronics factory were yesterday told 260 workers face the axe.

US firm Jabil announced they intend to phase out manufacturing at their plant in Livingston by the end of this year.

Bosses blamed the decision on “unsustainable current and future demand”.

Almost 100 support staff will continue at the site.

It comes less than two years after Jabil – described as electronic manufacturing services providers – announced they were creating more than 200 jobs and investing £12.5million in Livingston.

The firm said: “Following a strategic review, we have concluded there is unsustainable current and future demand to support the viability of the site.

“We are announcing the commencement of a formal consultation process with our employees with the intention of a phased rundown of manufacturing. This is set to impact approximately 260 employees.”

“This announcement is in no way a reflection of the hard work, dedication and loyalty of our employees. We are committed to supporting them through the process.”

The firm’s plant in Ayr is not affected.
