Waiting on McCall for title shot
JOHN McCALLUM is on the verge of a shot at the European title.
The Edinburgh supermiddleweight prospect is set to fight at the Raiton Meadows arena in Sunderland on May 26.
But McCallum is being lined up as a potential opponent for European champion Jamie Cox in the summer with Sky Sports looking to screen the bout.
The 28-year-old has won three on the spin since suffering his only defeat to Leon McKenzie in London last year.
McCallum said: “It’s a huge incentive for me to put on a show in Sunderland.”
Scot David Brophy, another supermiddleweight is also assessing his options after a stunning Commonwealth title win against Zac Dunn in Australia last week.
The 26-year-old hasn’t ruled out a rematch and said: “I’m sure Dunn will want a rematch for the title and if he does I want to fight him in Scotland.”
