- CRAIG SWAN c.swan@dailyrecord.co.uk GAVIN BERRY

RUSSELL MARTIN has urged national unity to haul Scotland back from the World Cup brink.

The Norwich defender is desperate for the country to pull together in a bid to stay alive in the section.

Around 20,000 seats could be lying empty at Hampden for the must-win crunch clash.

Just over 9000 witnessed the midweek friendly against Canada at Easter Road but Martin is desperate for a passionate home audience to try to fill the National Stadium and roar the Tartan troops to a much-needed triumph.

He said: “We’ve got a big game and everyone needs to be together. Fans, staff, players, media, everyone needs to be positive towards Sunday so we get a result.

“It helps to have a full house behind you, we’ll do as well as we possibly can and stick to the game plan the manager sets out for us.

“Regardless of what’s

happened in the previous three or four games, if we get a result on Sunday we’re right back in the mix and have a real chance of moving on up the group.

“Hopefully we’ll put in a performance that means next time we play, the ground will be full.”

Scotland must to win to stay in the qualification hunt and Martin added: “There are no easy games in this group, England have found that going away to Slovenia already.

“But there are points available, this is the kind of group where teams will all take points off each other.

“That’s why it’s so vital to get a result – if we don’t it will be difficult for us.” Gordon, Martin, Berra, Mulgrew, Tierney, Brown, Morrison, Armstrong, Ritchie, Snodgrass, S Fletcher.
