Scots boxer sweats to death in Thailand

Heat stroke kills Jordan, 20, as he sheds weight for bout

A YOUNG Scots Muay Thai boxer sweated to death after he went training in a sauna suit to lose weight for a fight.

Jordan Coe died of dehydration as he exercised in temperatures of up to 37C in Thailand. The 20-year-old was hoping to lose 3kg so he could make a 61kg fight last night. His Scottish coach Craig Floan said: “Jordan was a loveable rogue, a cheeky chappy who lived his life

to the absolute fullest. He trained hard, fought hard and entertained hard. “He was a real role model to not only the youngsters, but to the adults, too. “The whole Thai boxing community not only in Scotland but the rest of world is absolutely devastated by this news.” Jordan, from Falkirk, was wearing a sauna suit – designed to induce sweating – when he left his hotel in the Muang district of Thailand, 160 miles from the capital Bangkok, on Saturday morning. His body was found yesterday. A preliminary post mortem showed Jordan suffered severe dehydration and heatstroke, causing his body to go into fatal shock. Last night, the boxer’s mum Lisa and his family and friends were trying to come to terms with the tragedy. A fund was set up to bring the Scot’s body home. The fighter – who boxed under the name Jordan Lamnammoon – was due to take on Cambodian boxer Khon Bola last night. Craig, a coach at the Glasgow Thai Boxing Academy, said Jordan started fighting at a gym in Grangemouth. He later trained in Glasgow before moving to Ubon Ratchathani, in the east of Thailand. Craig said Jordan won 11 out of 12 fights last year. He had fought in Australia, Japan and Cambodia, as well as in Thailand and Britain. Superfit Jordan was known as the Dancing Boxer because he entered the ring performing a traditional north-eastern Thai dance.

Last night, friends bombarded his Facebook page with messages.

Malcolm Mclellan wrote: “So sad to hear this. Never have I seen a young lad with so much potential and determination.”

In a JustGiving page set up to raise money to bring the boxer home, Nicole Floan wrote: “Jordan was one of a kind. He was the most lovable, caring, enthusiastic young man you will have ever come across.

“He lived for Muay Thai so much so he chased his dream of living and fighting in Thailand. He loved coming home and fighting in home shows, bringing some crowd with him. Everyone loved Jordan.”

Jordan was due to come back to Scotland in July for a bout.

On Thursday, he wrote on Facebook: “Loving the constant fighting each month.

“Almost three years living in Thailand and with each year, I always learn more and more. Thank you to my team, family, friends and fans for always helping me on my journey.”

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are providing assistance to the family of a British national following their death in Thailand.”
