Julie's style secret

Leave the Lycra behind and give comfortable fit fashion gear a go

LYCRA has never been my friend. I’ve never owned a gym kit, and I haven’t even set foot in a gym for about 20 years.

I might not look particularly unfit but believe me, underneath the cleverly tailored tops I love to wear, there’s not a lot of muscle-tone.

It’s never bothered me that I’m not the fittest person on the planet, but when I struggled to push the pram up hill from the park the other day, I decided it’s time to make an effort to be more active.

Maybe not weight-lifting but definitely a lot more walking, and maybe the odd yoga class.

And the fact that there’s such a huge range of leisure wear in the shops at the moment makes it a lot more appealing. Gone are the days of cropped tops and cycling shorts – today’s fit fashion is pretty stunning – so much so that I’ve been wearing mine everywhere BUT the gym.

House of Fraser’s new “athleisure” ranges are top of my wish list – their designer brands are worth getting in a sweat about, and if you’re looking for something on a budget, New Look have some great prints that will liven-up your kit.

So, while my new-found fitness fad might not last much longer tha a week or two – my love of active wear is definitely here to stay.
