Trump lets son-in-law give government a going over
DONALD Trump is giving his son-in-law free rein to overhaul US government functions.
In the president’s latest piece of nepotism, Jared Kushner will run the White House Office of American Innovation.
He will use ideas from the business sector – and report directly to his father-in-law.
Kushner is married to Trump’s handbag designer daughter Ivanka, who has her own office at the White House but no job title.
Trump is preparing to announce the new office at a low point in his young administration, days after the Republican bill to repeal and replace the Obamacarehealth law imploded in the House of Representatives.
The effort has been developing since shortly after Trump’s inauguration, an official said. The group – including three of Trump’s White House staff with business experience – have started talking to CEOs from different sectors about ways to make changes to government programmes.
Areas they hope to tackle include overhauling Veterans’ Affairs, improving workforce development and targeting opioid addiction. ● The Archdiocese of Mexico – covering 7.7million Catholics in and around Mexico City – has said local firms who say they would build Trump’s border wall are committing “treason against their homeland”.
