MASTERCHEF fans were still feeling queasy yesterday after Scots hopeful Lewis Taylor stuffed ravioli with CUSTARD.

Lewis, 32, from Nairn, made sure the new series got off to a mad start with his unique (we hope) dessert.

Bemused host Gregg Wallace said: “I’m not grating parmesan across the top.”

As she judged the dishes, last year’s winner Jane Devonshire complained: “There’s no custard in my ravioli.” Perhaps she should have been grateful.

And fellow 2016 finalist Jack Layer said with admirable understatement: “This hasn’t worked.”

To no one’s surprise, poor Lewis didn’t make the quarter-finals.

One Twitter fan joked that they were about to make Lewis’s recipe “just to see my kids’ faces”. And another asked: “Did that poor bloke just have nothing else in the cupboard?” But web developer and trainee pilot Lewis, who is now based in London, had no regrets.

He said: “If you’re going to go out, go out in a blaze of... something.

“To be in the kitchen with John and Gregg and cooking something your mind has created is amazing.

“I’ve done the custard ravioli several times and it’s worked every time – except for Masterchef.”

Bachelor Lewis revealed his cooking style was born at Edinburgh University, where he used whatever was in the fridge to dream up other creations including a chocolate omelette.

And he’s planning to serve eight of his lucky mates custard ravioli at a dinner party tomorrow night. Bet they can’t wait.
