Good news at last after family suffer the agony of 3 cancelled procedures

BABY’S LIFESAVING SURGERY

A BABY boy who finally had a lifesaving heart operation after it was cancelled three times is due to go home today.

Little George Tait, who was desperately ill before his surgery last Friday, will now be able to lead a normal life.

The 20-week-old boy’s delighted mum Jade, from East Kilbride, said yesterday: “We are hoping to get him home tomorrow. He is off all his oxygen and monitors.”

Just two weeks ago, we told how George’s policeman dad Dylan, 22, and make-up artist mum Jade, 23, suffered the agony of his operation being cancelled repeatedly.

Their son was just nine weeks old when he was diagnosed with AVSD – atrioventricular septal defect – a serious heart condition where only one valve, instead of two, controls the flow of blood through both the left and right sides of the heart.

There is a hole in the heart and too much blood ends up in the right side of the heart and can go into the lungs.

Without repair, the condition would be fatal – and doctors told George’s anxious parents he needed surgery within eight weeks because his case was so serious.

After nine weeks and three cancelled ops – and with no future date for his surgery – they turned in desperation to the Daily Record to raise awareness of his plight.

They told how they were watching their son deteriorate in front of their eyes and how they feared he would die before he got his operation.

The very next day they were told a date had been set – and George had his surgery last Friday.

He started to develop a few common side effects the day after the operation.

But by Sunday, he “bounced back” and the couple got the news they were waiting for – George was on the mend.

Jade even got a Mother’s Day cuddle, which made her day as special as possible.

She said: “Surgery was a complete success, with the surgeon happy with the repair.”

Often the valve leaks after a repair but George has no such problems.

His drain was removed and by Sunday he was breathing on his own.
