A BRITISH mum has told how she stopped a stranger abducting her three-year-old daughter in Spain.

The terrifying incident took place weeks before the 10th anniversary of the kidnapping of Madeleine McCann, days ahead of her fourth birthday.

The mum of two, 27, was walking her daughter to a dance class in Estepona on the Costa del Sol when a scar-faced man aged about 50 approached.

She told detectives he got a young boy with him to strike up a conversation before he told the girl he would buy her sweets and grabbed her hand. The expat said: “At first I just thought he was being friendly but when he wouldn’t let go of her hand, I screamed.”

The balding man, who called himself Paco, and the boy fled after she yelled and struggled to make him let go.

Staff at the American Club said she rushed in in a panic and asked them to call police. One said: “A lot came and started a search of the area but found nothing as far as I am aware.”

A local resident added: “Everyone is talking about it. It is very worrying.”

The mum said of the incident: “I was very shocked, especially as it happened in the middle of the day in such a safe place.”

She warned on social media: “Everyone with children or who knows someone with children should be very careful and not let your child out of your sight. Police are doing all they can.” Police said: “We cannot comment because the investigation is ongoing.”

Madeleine, from Rothley, Leicestershire, went missing from the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in May 2007.
